The Swedish Schools Debating Championships is an annual event where schools from all over Sweden compete for the Swedish title. Dates for 2016 are the 18th to the 20th of November. Founded in 2010, more schools today compete than ever before. This year Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska Läroverket in Sigtuna, where Swedish debate originated, is returning to host the tournament. A scenic campus and surrounding town will provide a great backdrop for your team to go head to head with teams from all over Sweden. The weekend will be crammed full of debates, social events and will be a great opportunity to develop rhetorical ability. Whether beginner or experienced, all participants are welcomed for a fun and challenging weekend.
The competition will be held in the format World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC) which is used world-wide at a competitive level. Two teams of three to five people debate each other in front of a panel of impartial adjudicators who will decide the winner. Our chief adjudicators this year will be Paidamwoyo Mangondo from South Africa, Andreas Snekloth Kongsgaard from Denmark and Giles Whiteley from Great Britain
Accommodation will be provided on campus for all teams. Note that a responsible adult must accompany every delegation. On the Friday (18th) a guided tour of the campus and facilities will take place, as well as a social event and dinner. The opening ceremony commences the tournament on the morning of the Saturday, after which two impromptu and two prepared motion debates will decide teams for semi-finals and novice finals.
